Our collaboration with Panasonic to deliver sustainable homes

With renewable technologies in mind, we’ve been working with Panasonic to achieve our goal of providing carbon net-zero homes by 2030.

Our 54 homes nestled amongst Haddenham’s newly created landscaped green spaces are in the final phase of development, and every property is fitted with sustainable heating and domestic hot water using state-of-the-art technology.

The new residential development in Ely also includes 19 affordable housing properties for the Haddenham Community Land Trust (HCLT). We enlisted the help of Panasonic and specialist heating and cooling distributor, Oceanair who use Aquarea Mono-bloc air-to-water heat pumps to provide a greener way of heating each home.

Sharing our sustainable growth targets, we teamed up with HCLT and the Local Authority to deliver West End Gardens, a community-led development consisting of affordable one, two, three and four-bed dwellings ranging from bungalows to semi-detached and detached houses. At a crucial time for the climate and amidst a national energy crisis, we are committed to delivering sustainable homes with energy-efficient solutions instead of high-carbon-emitting gas boilers.

Supplied by Panasonic, every property benefits from underfloor heating on the ground floor and radiators on the first floor, with air-source heat pumps and unvented heat pump-compatible cylinders. Comfort is not compromised; those living in a West End Gardens home are able to enjoy the luxury of a heating system that reaches 65ºC water flow temperature, whilst saving on energy due to the renewable technology. The high-performing air source heat pump units boast the highest energy efficiency, rated A+++ at 35ºC and A++ at 55ºC.

At Palace Green Homes, we’re committed to being a sustainable developer and strive to be lean, through careful selection of energy-efficient materials; clean, by using fittings and fixtures that minimise the impact on the environment; and green, with a futuristic aim to build net-zero homes. Our collaboration with Panasonic steers this ambition by minimising the need for additional heating and cooling appliances in our new builds. Hear from Jon Soar, our Design Manager and heat-pump experts from Oceanair and Panasonic in the case study to find out more about the collaboration:

Jon speaks more about the mission: “We are fully focused on living and breathing our sustainability pledges to tackle the climate emergency the Council has declared. The new technology employed supports our goal of building only electrically heated homes, and we believe that our bespoke approach to the West End Gardens development in Haddenham will help residents live comfortably and sustainably in perpetuity. Air source heat pumps provide hot water and central heating systems; they are the energy-efficient answer for our residents.”

He continued: “We’re pleased to have partnered with a supplier who strives to innovate and bring revolutionary technology to market, which is housed in a single unit in each of the 54 new homes at Haddenham. Panasonic is helping us to meet our goal of delivering sustainable and future-proofed homes and we are committed to advancing this on all our future sites.”
