Kennett Garden Village is already attracting considerable interest as one of the area’s first sustainable, lower-density ‘garden village’ style mixed-use developments. Designs have incorporated an attractive array of different types that provide a desirable mix of high-quality properties. The development will also help to create local employment opportunities, offer affordable housing options and encourage healthy and sociable community living in a pretty village location to the north of the train station. On a prime 40-hectare site, Kennett Garden Village will redefine the standard in village-based property developments as part of the East Cambs Local Plan.
Around 500 new homes will enjoy leafy parklands, green space and nature-rich pathways and include genuinely affordable Community Land Trust (CLT) homes allocated for people living and/or working in the parish. The development will also contain an enterprise zone for businesses and include amenities for local living, such as local shops. Existing residents of Kennett have contributed to the design of Kennett Garden Village, in a project which many hope will secure the long-term future of the village for generations. School buildings and large open spaces were input into an illustrative plan which reflected many key issues and aspirations for the village and a new sustainable neighbourhood.
