When did you start at Palace Green Homes?

I joined Palace Green Homes in October 2018 as a Community Housing Manager.

Since April 2021, I have been working full time across two roles, one within the Community Housing Manager role that I have been in since 2018 and another 1.5 days a week as Sales and Customer Advisor Support.

My role is working alongside East Cambridgeshire Community Housing to ensure that all the rentals of Community Land Trust (CLT) properties are managed efficiently. As part of this, I am responsible for reviewing the applications for CLT homes, working through a point-based system to ensure everyone’s applications are considered fairly.

What is your career history prior to starting at Palace Green Homes?

I used to work as a Personal Assistant supporting nurse managers within the NHS in London. After this job, I moved up to Ely to take up another Personal Assistant role within East Cambridgeshire NHS.

My switch to the property sector came when I joined Tucker Gardner as a Property Manager, which is where I met Jo Alderson who works at Palace Green Homes too. I worked at Tucker Gardner from 2005 – 2007 and then from 2012 to 2016 after taking a career break, before moving over to Pocock and Shaw as a Property Manager in 2016.

I’ve been at Palace Green Homes since 2018 and have really enjoyed the work. It’s great to feel like you’re really making a difference to local people.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Palace Green Homes?

Palace Green Homes offers a completely different working dynamic to an estate agents. Everyone is relaxed and trusted to get on with their jobs and put their all into it – which we all do.

Phil and the wider team are really supportive to one another, so it’s a good place to work in terms of colleagues as well as the meaningful work that we do for our communities.

What’s one thing that lockdown has taught you, relating to your home?

The pandemic and various lockdowns really showed me how important space is. It’s highlighted to people whether they love their homes or might consider moving, and I think space has been a huge factor in that.

There’s been a large uptake in people wanting to move and many have cited wanting larger gardens in their new property.
