When did you start at Palace Green Homes?

I joined Palace Green Homes as an Accountant in November 2018. The company’s finances were initially looked after by East Cambridgeshire District Council’s finance team but when the business started to expand, they sought a dedicated financial resource to manage all aspects of the finance function.

I’m now in my third year here and have enjoyed rising to new challenges and learning more about the community housing that Palace Green Homes provides across East Cambridgeshire.

What is your career history prior to starting at Palace Green Homes?

I left school at 16 and worked for Anglian Water as a Finance Assistant. I was unsure what career path I wanted to take so when the company offered me accountancy training, I jumped at the chance to specialise in something. I immediately warmed to the world of finance, finding the process of problem-solving and analysing data really interesting and I went on qualify as an accountant in 1995.

Prior to my role at Palace Green Homes, I was a Finance Director at a local IT company for 17 years; responsible for finances and operations as well as HR.

What’s your favourite thing about working for Palace Green Homes?

Palace Green Homes have given me a lot of autonomy and this is something I hugely appreciate. As a team, we all work well individually and I really enjoy the relaxed but efficient work environment.

What’s one thing that lockdown has taught you, relating to your home?

The pandemic has made me realise how lucky I am to have open green space on my doorstep. Having a garden and local areas to walk and relax in has great benefits for your mental and physical health which you only notice when you can’t go anywhere else. It’s definitely highlighted the importance of considering the garden and local outdoor space when moving home.

What’s an interesting fact about yourself?

I’m an Accountant so I’m not actually allowed to be interesting.
