When did you start at Palace Green Homes?

I started working for Palace Green Homes in September 2019 as a Senior Site Manager at the Kilkenny Avenue site in Ely. I’m now working as the full-time Site Manager at West End Gardens, Haddenham.

What is your career history prior to starting at Palace Green Homes?

I always felt destined to work in the construction industry. I left school to work as a plasterer for a local company and did this for five years before deciding that bricklaying was the career route I wanted to follow. I enrolled onto a college course and the rest is history.

I was self-employed for a while before being recruited by Keir Construction. I spent 12 years with Kier and was a supervisor for a small works division, I was really thrown in at the deep end! I gained a lot of hands-on experience and skills before moving on to work for Foster Property Maintenance, staying with them for three years in their new build division.

After another two years at a company in Kings Lynn, I moved to Palace Green Homes and have been here for almost two years now.

During my career, I’ve completed a Site Management Safety Training Scheme course, as well as being trained in driving plant vehicles, operating cherry pickers, tower scaffolding and first aid.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Palace Green Homes?

It really is a positive place to work. Everyone knows exactly what they are doing on-site and there’s a fantastic structure in place, both on-site and within the wider team too.

It’s great to work for a company that places so much emphasis on providing quality homes for the local community.

What’s one thing that lockdown has taught you, relating to your home?

Not so much for my own home, but it’s been important to see just how much garden space there is on our developments. You don’t often get large gardens in new build sites but that’s something we are keen to achieve at Palace Green Homes. The size of a property’s garden has become more important when people are purchasing a home.

For me, I do appreciate the outdoors more now. It’s been hugely beneficial to me to have a job that allows me to be outside every day.

My experience on building sites and at different companies means I’m really good with people, so I get on with everyone I meet. I also enjoy playing golf in my spare time.
